Did you know that there is a World Mosquito Day?

World Mosquito Day is celebrated every year on 20th August. The initiative behind it came from the American Mosquito Control Association, a scientific body based in the United States with members in more than 50 different countries. The aim of the day is to inform the public and raise awareness about the degree of danger that the behaviour of mosquitoes and other similar insects poses to human beings. This particular date was chosen because it was on 20th August 1897 that Ronald Ross from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine discovered that mosquitoes were responsible for the scourge of malaria.
